Rurutu Island was formed 12 million years ago. Rurutu has large cliffs on the edge of the island except for a few beaches. It's known for its whale watching in the summer, especially Humpback whales.
The island is located in the Pacific Ocean. It's got an area of 37.75 sq km, 10.8 of length and 5.3 of width. Its highest elevation is 385 m.
It belongs to French Polynesia. 2322 people live there, a density of 71 per sq km.  

Palmyra Atoll

Palmyra Atoll has 4 major islands, a runway and only 4 people living there. An area of 12 km sq, a coast line of 14 km and a highest elevation of 6 ft (1.8288m). Palmyra Atoll is close to Kiribati, but it belongs to the USA.

 

Kauehi Atoll

In Kauehi there are 257 people living there. Its lagoon is 320 km sq, 24 km of length and 18 km of width but only 15 km sq are above water. Kauehi belongs to French Polynesia.

 

Aneityum Island

Aneityum is a small island, with 915 people in 2009 but before that they say it could of had more than 12000 people when the Europeans arrived in 1793. It's got an area of 159 sq km and its highest  point is Mount Inrerow Atamein with an elevation of 852 m. It belongs to Vanuatu.

 

Niue Rugby

  


                                       Niue Rugby team 

Niue, a small island in the Pacific, has quite a good team for such a small island in the middle of the ocean. They got into the final of the Pacific Cup and won against New Caledonia 27-5 on the 30th of August 2008. When they played against South Africa, they won 48-4.

The Tuamotu islands were first settled by Polynesians.
